Real Life Groups - Do you accept the challenge?
As I sit here trying to rack my brain with ways of making Real Life Groups sound fun, exciting, and desirable I realize the truth is none of those are the primary reason why we go.
- The bible commands us to love one another. It’s not optional, Jesus taught it. John 13:34-35
- Where do you think that love takes place if not in fellowship and community with one another? Hebrews 10:24-25.
That’s it! Jesus loved and lived in community with others. What are we here for if not to become fully formed disciples (imitators) of Christ? Listen to what the writer of Hebrews says; "…And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some." Do you really want to be on the tail end of that statement? Think about it, are you currently part of the some group?
Jesus isn’t given to exaggeration and the bible is more than just a guide book. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life and scripture shouldn’t just inform us, but form us.
So what then? Well some of us need to be honest and stop making excuses as to why we can’t participate in a life group. It’s hard for all of us at times, I get it, but neglecting to meet together is not the answer. Allow yourself to stir and be stirred up to love and good works. Join a community of people who are thoughtful, considering how they can love and serve you.
The real challenge, then, is self-denial. Will I surrender to the bible and Jesus on this issue or will I be the final truth and authority on this topic in my life? True fulfillment is found in drawing closer to God. A primary means of drawing closer to God is drawing closer to one another in Christ. Throw off the restraints of going it alone, and embrace the life giving love of community. Go from me to we and join a Real Life Group. You won’t regret it!
