Entering a Season of Advent
“This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him.” 1 John 4:9
I love the Christmas season! There are so many memories from when I was a child until now. I remember the first time I visited the Zilker Christmas tree as a child, making Christmas cookies and other treats with my family, going on my first date with my wife to the trail of lights, Nikki and I’s first Christmas as parents, and the list goes on and on.
Each year it feels as if the holiday season flies by faster and faster. If we are not careful, the holiday season can slip by without us remembering why Christmas is so important. Christmas is a great time to have “God conversations” with your family and talk about how God loves everyone so much that He sent God the Son into the world to rescue it.
The Family Ministry wants to encourage families to take time to slow down and focus on how crucial it is that Jesus came to earth. Reality is your family is going to learn different ideas about what Christmas and the holiday season is all about. Create a culture in your home where your family can have hard, honest discussions about what Christmas is all about and the difficulties of faithfully following Jesus in our society.
One of our goals as a Family Ministry is to equip parents to succeed. In an effort to achieve this goal, we have created a Family Ministry Advent Guide to help lead your family through a weekly discussion about Christmas and a family activity for each week to help you carry out the conversation throughout the week. The Advent Guides are available at the Info Desk in the lobby or at the Children’s Ministry Check-In Kiosks. Feel free to pick one up this coming Sunday!
Here's to a great Christmas Season!
